Ama-no-jaku, or Wicked Demon of Heaven, is a cruel demon-like creature found in Buddhist mythology. It is contrary in spirit and has the power to see into a human's heart. It is said to be able to provoke a person's darkest desire and incite wicked deeds. The Ama-no-jaku appears in the folktale, Uriko-hime, where it devours the melon princess on her wedding day and wears her skin to impersonate her.
