31 Amigurumi in October: Day 31
Happy Halloween!!!
We did it! We made it through a 31 Amigurumi in October series, plus a second daily series, and I didn't lose my mind... well not too much.
I had so many people hope I'd made a Gengar Moon Bun and I really wanted to, but I could not for the life of me figure out how to translate Gengar's design into a Moon Bun. Luckily I ran across this idea of a Pikachu in a Gengar costume and just had to make my own version.
This doll was reserved by one of my Patreon patrons. If you'd like to get a cut the line pass too, please consider joining us at the $3 level. I'm also giving away this sweet Edgar Allen Poe and Raven set to a random patron.
Every level from $1 and up are eligible for the giveaway. Today is your last day to join for the Poe doll, but I give a doll away every month. If you'd like to become a Patreon Patron, please click here:
Finally, today's prompt for the October Create a Day was "your choice." This was the hardest decision for me, because I'm terrible about making decisions. I waffled right up until this weekend and finally decided to make these cute Skeleton Bride and Groom Moon Buns, because not only is today Halloween, but it's also my 13 year wedding anniversary! Yay! I haven't killed my husband yet! (Haha! I kid, sometimes...)
It is because my anniversary is Halloween that I originally decided to start the 31 Amigurumi in October series. Now, that I know I can manage a month long series, I'm already making plans for next year's series as well as a few week-long series throughout the year, because it's fun!
Thank you for following along with the series this month! I hope you enjoyed the dolls as much as I enjoyed making them!
Love,
Marcy

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 30
We're almost there! Can you believe it?
Tomorrow is the last dolls for this series. My wrists are going to appreciate a brief rest before I run straight into working on making dolls for the holidays and for upcoming show, MagFest!
Today's doll for the 31 Amigurumi in October is the Alola Marowak. I love that they made Marowak into a ghost-type due to the sadness of the Cubone/Marowak story. So sad!!!!
Here's a little snippet from Cubone:
It is called the Lonely Pokémon because of its tendency to keep to itself and avoid social situations, as it was apparently traumatized by the death of its mother. Cubone will often weep at night in mourning of its mother. When Cubone cries, the skull that it wears on its head vibrates and emits "a plaintive and mournful sound." On the night of a full moon, the cries are said to be especially terrible. Cubone seems to recognize its mother in the moon, and so it howls with a particular sadness.
The prompt for today's October Create a Day is "Grim Reaper" and so... here's a Grim Reaper Moon Bun!
Both dolls are available at Moon's Creations.
Now I've got to go listen to today's Lore Podcast! Catch you later alligator!

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 28
Today's Pokemon inspiration is honestly one I've never played, but it's so cute, Gothita. It's a little Gothic Lolita inspired Pokemon!
And here's my version of Frankenstein's Monster for the October Create a Day! I've make a Frankenstein Monster many times before, but honestly, I think this is my best version yet.
Sorry for being rather blah today with my promotions, I took my children trick or treating this morning at our local downtown. It was fun, but now my brain is fried. I wish I could take a nap.
Oh! While I've got your ear, my husband and I have been working on a Zazzle shop! We've often talked about making shirt designs with screen printing, but our small house and small children just won't allow it, so rather than have our dreams crushed, we turned to Zazzle to make products.
Right now you can save up to 40% on most products using promo code: ZGIFTSDEAL40 (This deal is good through October 29.)
See other gifts available on Zazzle.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 27
Halloween is only a few days away! Have you picked out your costume? Are you even dressing up? I'm going to be dressed as a "stressed out mother", hahaha! Oh, I may pull something out of my closet, but most likely "stressed out mother" is going to be my default costume.
This little Moon Bun is ahead of the game, as a Ghastly!
With a prompt of Halloween Movie, it's hard to not go literal and create Micheal Myers. However oh gosh this doll gave me so much trouble. I didn't think I'd have it complete in time. (Wanna know a secret, I'm a total sissy and can't watch most horror films. I'm too scared!!!)
Both dolls are currently available at Moon's Creations!

Patreon Monthly Giveaway Dolls
Please excuse me for releasing this photo so late, I've been a little busy, as you can probably imagine, but I'm super proud of myself for keeping up with two challenges this month. However can we say never again. One series per month is my limit... at least until the children are older.
Sorry for the tangent! These are the dolls which will be given away to one of my lucky Patreon patrons! It's an Edgar Allen Poe Moon Bun, complete with a book and a little Raven. D'aww!
The rules are every Patreon supporters name is tossed in a hat (often an empty coffee cup on hand) and one winner is chosen! It doesn't matter if you pledge $1 or $20 all of my Patreons are valuable to me.
If you'd like to join my Patreon family, I'd love to have you.
31 Amigurumi in October: Day 26
Ok, let's be real here. By the time I have sketched out about 28 Pokemon as bunnies for the 31 Amigurumi in October series, my well of inspiration begins to run dry. I've found walking away and coming back tends to clear my head and this is one of those dolls I thought of, Exeggutor!
You see last year at Magfest, I had two customers who were dressed as Exeggutors! They had attached photos of their faces on either side of their heads and let me say it was brilliant. It got me to thinking about a little Moon Bun dressed up as an Exeggutor and how they would do something very similar.
(Guess what, Exeggutor is totally inspired by the yokai, Jinmenju. It's another import from Chinese Mythology.)
Today's prompt for the October Create a Day is "eyeballs." When I read this I knew I wanted to make a Moon Bun with spectacularly beautiful eyes. I've been following Monsterumi on Instagram for a while and her dolls always feature such stunning eyes, so I contacted her and asked if she didn't mind pointing me in the direction of her supplier.
SHOCKER!! She makes her own eyes! So of course I beg her to please make me a custom pair of eyes and she was so sweet, she allowed me to choose not one pair, but 5 pairs. I still have 3 pairs left and I know just what I'm going to do with them! heh heh!
Anyway, this is my Eyeballs Moon Bun! And thanks to Monsterumi, the eyeballs really make this doll.
Available at Moon's Creations.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 25
This little Moon Bun is dressed as Misdreavous for today's 31 Amigurumi in October. I wanted her to be cute, so I debated on making her eyes red or not. I ended up with black, because they just looked better.
Vampire was today's October Create a Day prompt, and since I've already made one vampire, I went with Count Orlok from Nosferatu! What do you think? It's kinda hard to see with the white on white, but he has little fangs in the front.
Count Orlok is the only available doll as Misdreavous sold before I got to blogger. Thank you so much!

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 24
Today's doll for the 31 Amigurumi in October is a Spoink! This doll is based on my cat pattern, but gosh I'm so pleased with how it came out. I love Spoinks. They are so cute.
The prompt for today's October Create a Day was "Pirates" and I just had to make one of the best known lady pirates, Anne Bonny! She was a major bad ass when ladies were little more than property. Seriously, if you haven't heard about her before, I highly encourage you to read more!
Currently both dolls are available at Moon's Creations.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 23
Today's Pokemon inspiration is Wynaut! I really wanted to try this particular design, because it would allow me to work on lop-eared Moon Buns. I'm not 100% sure on this style of ears, but I'm one step closer to getting it perfect.
The prompt for today's October Create a Day was "Disney Inspired." My mind immediately went to Maleficent. She is my absolute favorite bad-y in the world of Disney. I love how evil she is and just for the sake of being evil. I suppose that's why I dislike the live-action movie with Angelina Jole. I don't want Maleficent to have a reason to be who she is. haha!
Wynaut is my only available doll this day. Maleficent was reserved by one of my lovely Patreon patrons. Patrons who pledge $3 and up are given first dibs on dolls. I update my Patreon once a week with behind the scene details on dolls, business, and even a sprinkling of my personal life. Maybe you would like to join us too?

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 22
For today's 31 Amigurumi in October, I made a Hypno! I don't know if I've mentioned (I really do know I've mentioned it), but I really love any Pokemon inspired by Yokai.
If you're unfamiliar, the yokai which inspired Hypno is the Baku (pronounced bah-koo). It is a tapir-like creature and it will eat your bad dreams, so it's a good yokai to have around. Baku originated in China, but happily moved over to Japan. Little Baku statues are often put at the bedside of children to protect them from bad dreams. Even the word for tapir in Japanese is, Baku!
The prompt for today's October Create a Day was "childhood" and oh my gosh! I could not for the life of me think of a design. I knew I wanted to create a child-like costume for a Moon Bun, but what? When I began making the doll, my original thought was something like the Lock, Stock, and Barrel characters from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Well, that same day, I'd finally finished up my children's costumes for Halloween. They both decided they wanted to be dragons. The boy is green and the girl wanted to be pink.
Anyway, I realized, why don't I make a Moon Bun wearing the same costume as my son, since I had leftover fabric scraps. And, tada! The Dragon Costume Moon Bun was born. haha!
Both dolls are currently available at Moon's Creations.
And if you ever need someone to nerd out with you about yokai, you know the lady to call, because I will be all over that conversation.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 21
Ahhh! Only 10 more days left! I can't believe there's a light at the end of this tunnel. Not that I haven't been having a heck of a time making these dolls, but I think my family is beginning to feel a bit neglected and my health has been tanking from the late nights with dolls and early mornings with children. Anyway! Here we are! Day 21, which brings these two dolls.
The first is this little Pokemon-inspired Moon Bun. It is dressed as the Pokemon, Chingling. Chingling is so cute! I had to try. This was also around the time of doll designs I began to consider representing the Pokemon in different ways, such as just the head representing the Pokemon. Anyway, I love Chinglings, but I've never played a game where these Pokemon were available to catch, yet...
Next is this little Gremlin. I wanted to represent the traditional Gremlins, you know the ones people saw on planes. The little imps who like to muck up things. I really didn't want to go back go back to the 80's Gremlin movie. Not that I don't like it, but I wanted something older. Of course, this may have been because I've been reading The World of Lore: Monstrous Creatures, every night since I received the book. Seriously, if you're looking for something to read that's eerie, but will still let you sleep with the lights off, this is the book for you!

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 20
Today's 31 Amigurumi in October doll is Umbreon! Working on this series, I realized there is no ghost-type Eevveelution. How would you design a ghost-type Eevvee? Reply with photos, I want to see!
The prompt for today's October Create a Day was "Addams Family," so I decided to make a Wednesday Addams and I did and she was one of my smaller Moon Buns and she was perfect, but i smudged some pigment on her head and instead of thinking logically on how to remove the smudge, I rubbed it and made the smudge so much worse.
She looked like Wednesday Addams on Ash Wednesday.
So! Here we have Wednesday Addams 2.0. She is on the larger doll design, but that allowed me to fix her braids, so they're thinner and look more realistic. Also I learned something new about rooting Moon Bun hair, so in the end it was a win. I learned something new and Wednesday 2.0 is looking cute.
These dolls are currently available at Moon's Creations.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 19
Today's doll for the 31 Amigurumi in October series is Aegislash!
Admittedly this was one of my least favorite Pokemon when I first heard of it (including Honedge and Doublade), but since playing the XY games, I kinda love these Pokemon. But they are based on Yokai and you know me and Yokai. haha! So I pretty much love any Yokai-based Pokemon.
I'm considering revisiting Yokai again this August for the Obon festival.
Today's prompt for the October Create a Day was Candy Apples, so I thought I'd try to make a Moon Bun shaped candy apple. While I think the doll is cute, I think it also suffers from poor translation from sketch to doll on my part. I still love it, but I think I could do better if I had more time.
Currently these dolls are still available at Moon's Creations.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 18
Today's doll for the 31 Amigurumi in October series is an Alola version Meowth. I really enjoyed making this doll, but I have to say, I don't think I've ever felt so judged by a doll before. (jerk!)
The prompt for today's October Create a Day was cauldron. Well I knew I wanted to make a Moon Bun in a cauldron, but my first version was meh. Ok, rabbit in a cauldron, what about it. So I had to go back. What would make this bunny look gloppy and scary and like it was the potion come to life?
And here's where I ended up. I think he looks so creepy, but I love him.
All dolls are currently available at my shop!

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 17
Gosh! Talk about a day. I've been so sleepy lately. I'm hoping it's not the depression creeping back, because yeah... basically if you're my friend I assume you hate me and don't want to be my friend anymore.
Ugh. I'm thinking about getting one of those sun lamps. I'm trying more vitamin D now. We will see how it goes.
The doll for today's 31 Amigurumi in October is Inkay. I kinda love any Pokemon which works with Team Rocket. It was hard making this one, because when I first made the "hat" it looked like a Pope hat. Oops! And now that I've told you this, you're probably thinking the same thing. haha!
The prompt for today's October Create a Day was "coffin." While brainstorming designs, my mind immediately when to Vampire. I've had this little wooden coffin waiting in my basket of supplies and I knew I just had to use it. I went with the more romanticized version of the vampire. A Bella Lugosi styled vampire as it were. It's hard to tell in the photos but he absolutely has fangs.
These dolls are now currently available at Moon's Creations. Wow! We've gotten halfway through the month. Are you enjoying the series so far? Are there any dolls you're still hoping to see?

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 16
Today brings two dolls for the 31 Amigurumi in October series! These are little Moon Buns dressed up as the water and ghost type Pokemon, Frillish. Frillish is a sort of Jellyfish and if you're into yokai, yes! They are 100% based off of an actual yokai. You know me and my love of yokai knows no bounds.
Today's October Create a Day prompt was Crystal Ball. Now I could have gone for a crystal ball, but what fun is that? Let's make a cute little psychic Moon Bun wrapped in purple shawls to read that crystal ball for you and tell you your fortune. Ahh! She's so cute. This was one of my first kerchief-styled hats for a Moon Bun and I'm loving it!
Ok, I've got a ton of things to do today and not much time to do it, so I'm gonna run.
As always you can find these dolls over at my shop, Moon's Creations.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 15
Today's Moon Bun for 31 Amigurumi in October is a Zorua. I was not familiar with this dark-type Pokemon, but it's so spooky-cute! According to Bulbapedia,
Zorua can change its physical appearance, though this transformation is merely an illusion as it keeps its own type and moves. Zorua keeps its true form hidden to ensure its safety, and takes on the appearance of other Pokemon to frighten off enemies. Sometimes it will take the form of a silent child.Aww! I love Pokemon which are based off of yokai, because yeah, I will always and forever love yokai.
And then we get to an iconic character, Beetlejuice! The prompt for October Create a Day was Beetlejuice and I stuck with it. After making him, I thought about why I didn't make another character, but that will be for another October. I really wanted to remake this doll in my improved style.
Yep, a long 31 Amigurumi in October ago, I made a Beetlejuice Moon Bun and I've always wanted to remake his design in the striped suit again.
I will be attending my first ever Anthrocon in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in July 2018! That's right! I got my confirmation. I'm going to Zombie Capitol of the world Pittsburgh!*
* I've never been to Pittsburgh before, but it is Zombie Capitol in mind thanks to George Romero.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 14
Today's doll is Cacturne! I like Cacturne's character design, but maybe that's me. haha! It's a very spooky looking Pokemon which fits the Grass/Dark type.
I have to put my little tag phrase here, because I'm a bit too proud of myself.
This tempting little Devil Moon Bun would love to make your life a living Hell.
Mwhahaha! Doesn't it feel like there should be lighting flashes in the sky now.
Anyway, can't type long. I promised I'd make my children cupcakes today, because the read a book and their mama stupidly said, "we have those ingredients." So now I'm on the hook for making Troll cupcakes. I probably make a post later with our results on my home blog, Tired and Flailing if you wanna check that out.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 13
Happy Friday the 13th of October!
WhooOOOooooo! (Those are ghost sounds, btw)
So today's 31 Amigurumi in October doll is Decidueye. Decidueye is a Grass/Ghost type, so I'm kinda bending rules on making this doll, but it's my series and I give myself full permission. This doll was very difficult for me. In fact, I redid the design while it was waiting for it's release date, because I still wasn't happy with it.
Here is my attempt at making the cutest spider ever for the October Create a Day prompt "spider." This photo shows off the little spider bun's blushing cheeks, but she also has tiny fangs if you look closely.
Both dolls are currently available at Moon's Creations.
Have a safe and spooky 13th! WhooOOOOoooooooOOooooooo! (more ghost noises)
Thursday, October 12, 2017
31 Amigurumi in October: Day 12
Today's doll for the 31 Amigurumi in October is one of my favorite Pokemon from the television series, Pumpkaboo. I don't know what it is about Pumpkaboo, but I've been making my family nuts talking like her. She's so cute! Like a little pumpkin/cat. So cute!
Today's prompt for the October Create a Day was "costume' and my brain immediately goes to Jason Voorhees. Maybe it's the fact that dressing like Jason Voorhees is like wearing two costumes. First the character behind the mask and then the mask itself. I've made so many Jason Moon Buns in the past and I think this one is my absolute favorite to date.
Currently both dolls are available at Moon's Creations, however the dolls from these series have been selling out very quickly.
Wednesday, October 11, 2017
31 Amigurumi in October: Day 11
Today's 31 Amigurumi in October Moon Bun is dressed as the ghost-type Pokemon Drifloon. This is another of those Pokemon I didn't think much of, but oh my gosh, these things are creepy. They are the spirits of dead humans and Pokemon. They like to lure children away by pretending to be balloons. Ahh!!
Inspired by the villains of old black and white films and in the Snidely Whiplash vein, it's the Villainous Moon Bun, complete with a removable top hat, menacing eyebrows, and a handle bar mustache to twirl. Beware, he's certainly up to no good.
Both dolls are currently available at Moon's Creations.

31 Amigurumi in October: Day 10
Today's doll for the 31 Amigurumi in October series is a sleepy little Abra. He can sit up, but this little outtake photo ended up being my absolute favorite, because it looks like he's resting his sleepy head on the pokeball. Aw!
For the OctoberCreateADay prompt today, "Haunted House," my mind went immediately to one of the most well known haunted houses, Disney's Haunted Mansion. I've never been to any Disney park, so I had to hit up my Twitter family for some ideas on which ghost to make and gosh did they ever come through for me.
The big consensus was the Hatbox Ghost and here's my representation of him in a Moon Bun form. Now as adorable as he is with his hat, if you remove it, he's still hiding his adorable little Moon Bun ears.
Both dolls are currently available at Moon's Creations.
