The Griffin was a character in Frank Stockton's The Griffin and the Minor Canon. It is a tale of a monstrous Griffin who, upon hearing his likeness has been copied on a church, goes to see it. He then decides to stay in the town and causes quite a stir with the townsfolk. Read this fairy tale here.
