Pumpkin Moon Buns

This past week has been absolutely amazing in Virginia. The weather feels almost autumny, so I had to make some pumpkins. Of course they're my style of pumpkins! ;)

Also today is the opening of Plush You! LA at Munky King!
If you're in LA, please, visit for some amazing plush artwork!
And if you take any photos, please upload and link me. I'm heartbroken over not going myself.

Plush Team Virtual Book Tour

Have you guys heard about the Plush Team's book, Get Stuffed?
It's amazing! Members of the team give stories of their experiences, influences and creative process. If you've ever wanted to step into the mind of a plush artist, this is the book for you. It's also an amazing reference and source on inspiration whether you knit, needle felt or sew.

Here's a little sneak preview of my two pages in this book.
In it, I comment on my design philosophy of "simple is best." To me, this means simple in appearance, not in skill. Plush should look effortless and maybe even a little childish, but no corners should ever be cut.

If you're aching to get your hands on a copy of this great little book, stop by the Plush Team's shop today!

Also, have you seen the Plush Team's sewing kit for P.T. Stitchy?
So adorable and also available in the Plush Team's shop!

New!

New items keep popping up at Moon's Creations so quickly, I can barely keep up!
Most recently, have been the pencils for back to school!

Another is the black Kitty-gurumi which were surprisingly missing from the shop for so long!

For those crafters looking for bargains, keep an eye on the new section in Moon's Creations called: Destash. This section will be periodically updated with yarn that's been languishing in my own stash for too long.

So what's up for next week?
Possibly some food stuffs, early Halloween designs and restocking those little newborns!

I'm also preparing for Plush You! Seattle as well as getting ready for the 31 Amigurumi in October series for 2010!

Custom Order Corner

This great little pair of Yeti Moon Buns were made for a friend who will be getting married this weekend. She drew up the design for the bride and groom!

These great Kitty-gurumi were designed to look like the owner's real cats!
(I've also since realized I have no black cats currently listed in the shop, I'll be sure to remedy this soon!)

The customer like to customize her own Moon Men, but likes the way I add hair, so she will custom order the base with an eye color and hair selection to make her own dolls!

Ok, I'm sure if you've looked at my custom order guidelines, you've seen that I don't like to make a direct character, but sometimes a character just doesn't look right as a Moon Bun. This was the case with Bender. I think he's still pretty cute!

And finally, this cute little pumpkin Moon Bun! I love the goofy faces of jack o' lanterns. Halloween Buns will be appearing in the shop very soon!

These Newborns will be landing in the Plush Team's Etsy shop on Tuesday, August 17th.

Edited to Add:
Thank you for the overwhelming support of the Newborn Moon Buns. If you missed out on the first 3, don't fret, these little babies will appear in the Moon's Creations store soon.

Plush You! LA

This year, the amazing art show Plush You, which features some of the world's most amazing plush and soft sculptures will be at two venues.

The first will be held in LA at Munky King, opening on August 26th!

I was fortunate enough to get a placement in this show!
I worked around the theme of Chinese Mythological Creatures and created a Fenghuang Moon Bun, Dragon Moon Bun and Qilin Moon Bun

The Fenghuang is commonly referred to as the "Chinese Phoenix" and is seen as a sign of good fortune.

I also created a Dragon Moon Bun designed after the Chinese Dragons, with their large manes and long bodies.

Another auspicious mythological creature, the Qilin was said to appear in conjection with a great Sage. The Qilin has been called a "Chinese Unicorn" and is the well-known mascot for the Japanese beer Kirin.

These Moon Buns are truly one-of-a-kind and will only be available at the show!

Plush Team's Vegas Challenge

The Plush Team is so fabulous!
Every two months they give us a new challenge, which helps us think outside of our little boxes and are always so fun.

The most recent challenge was based on Las Vegas!
I must admit I know little to nothing about Vegas, so research and lots of sketches were made. Around my planning, Mr. Moons was listening to a band that covers popular rock, rap, heavy metal, punk, and pop songs in a swanky, swing band style, called Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine.

You may have heard their cover of Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness" featured in 2004's "Dawn of the Dead."

Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine currently only play in Vegas.
Needless to say, my love of lounge music and the in appropriate, led me to purchasing several of their cd's and my Vegas theme!

Here's the photo I used to base my Moon Buns. To find out more about Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine and to purchase their amazing cds, click the image!

This is a custom piece designed to look like the customer's original character. His name is Murphy and he's an old science class skeleton.
He was so much fun to make!

I was also asked to remake the prize from the Plush Team's July giveaway!
If you've also been eyeing a Flower Moon Bun, I have a feeling Wednesday will have some exciting news!

Whew! - Post Otakon

Whew!
Well, I'm finally back from Otakon and back to work on new designs and custom orders! I think this may have been my busiest convention yet. It was absolutely wonderful of everyone who came for a visit. I love meeting people and hearing their excitement over my designs. It makes me so happy to know Moon Buns are loved as much as I love making them.

I'll probably be a little on the quiet side while I try to catch up on the mountain of work ahead of me, but I won't be gone long.
